was born on October 13, 1946 in the town of Valle Roldanillo. Studied at the seminary in Carthage and graduated in Teolgía Dogmatic in the Gregorian University in Rome. On August 28, 1971 was ordained priest in the Diocese of Cartago. There he served as parish priest in various communities.
